Climb to a crux of a vertical candlesticked pillar which ends just below the rim of the canyon. To the right is another route of more moderate difficulty.
From Mike Miller (2020): “James Deitzman and I climbed the right route one year (with ropes and leashes), while Dave Lucey soloed the left route, sans leashes, with the “new concept of” leashless tools of the day. At the base of the last pitch, we heard Dave yelling at us – “come get me”. So, I led the last pillar and we walked over left to the top of the route Dave was on. There was no ice! The ice stopped about 50′ below the rim. re rapped dirt down to Dave, then all three of us rapped to the bottom. If you haven’t skied up Hicks Creek – do it – fantastic adventure just skiing. We also did another route or two in there 25 years ago or so. We have seen dead sheep and injured sheep that have fallen off the cliffs above. very cool place!”
