From Anchorage take the Glenn Highway to milepost 8 to the Hiland Road exit. Turn right onto Hiland Road and head up to the Chugach State Park parking area. Pack your stuff and access the trail head and hike to the bridge at a “Y” in the trail. Pay attention to current conditions to determine if you should be packing skis or not. Follow the trail or head up the valley to reach Eagle Lake (about 6 miles). Cross the foot bridge, then immediately turn left and follow the south lakeshore of Eagle Lake. Stay on the lake’s shoreline to reach the second gully. Head up the gully and back down to Symphony Lake. Symphony Lake is an awesome spot to set up a base camp and attack the back country ice in this area.
